When not in class or at church, Elise can often be found baking, playing squash, volunteering with Campus Ministry, or being dragged to the gym by her beloved but endlessly energetic roommates.

Parish Administrator. Janie Piemonte is a student in the art of career reinvention. Starting her career in the early 80’s as a financial analyst and financial trader, she loves numbers. Once her children, Rachel and Chris, came along, Janie was grateful to be able to stay home and care for them while becoming a volunteer extraordinaire. From Treasurer to President of several PTA Boards and then Fundraising Chair and President of Kevin Guest House in Buffalo, NY, Janie learned the ins and outs of non-profits. Reinvention number three was assuming the position of Director or Religious Education at the Newman Center at the University of Buffalo. Upon returning to the DC area, Janie embarked on career number four and has spent the past 6 years developing programs and counseling students as a member of the career services team at George Mason University Law School.

Janie is excited to put all of her skills together to benefit Emmanuel in yet another reinvention. Janie holds a B.S. in Finance from American University and a Master’s in Communication and Organizational Management from Canisius College.

Administrative Assistant. Karen O'Hern is a native Long Islander who has been a resident of
Alexandria since 1989. She graduated from Alfred University in western NY with a degree in Marketing and Business Economics. She enjoys outings with
husband Bob, children Andrew and Kelsey and friends that revolve around nature and good food. She is very happy to be part of the thriving and welcoming community at Emmanuel.

Sexton. Carlos Guzman was raised by his grandparents in El Salvador. Due to the internal guerrilla conflicts at that time his parents were forced to seek a better future for him and his family. He had the opportunity to reunite with his parents in 1996 in Long Island, New York, so he considers himself a Yankees fan! Carlos is the father of four beautiful boys, one who will begin college in the fall. He is very excited and proud of the opportunity to support him. Carlos also serves as sexton with St. Albans Episcopal Church.
